Carer Reps What is a Carer Rep? So, we hear you asking, “What is a Carer Rep? And what are the benefits of getting involved with Carer Voice?” Carer Representatives (Reps) are specially trained carers who are offered opportunities to have their say to help improve the system for all carers and the people they care for. Among other things, Carer Reps may attend meetings, steering groups, and public forums on a regular basis; or contribute to ad hoc meetings such as recruitment, task and finish groups, or consultations. You may also choose to get involved in quality assurance roles, informal social events (e.g. carer coffee breaks), or carer support groups. You will certainly not be expected to do all of this! You can shape the role to fit around your own caring commitments – rest assured, whatever time you can offer or role you are able to play, your valuable contribution will be welcomed by Carer Voice. Why are Carer Reps Important? At Worcestershire Association of Carers (WAC), we believe that carers are the Experts by Experience (EbE). You have the knowledge, skills, and experience to bring about positive changes through working in co-production with external partners to achieve better outcomes for carers across Worcestershire. This is because carers have an insight into what works and also what may require development. Carer Voice champion carers being treated as equal partners around the table and having their views heard. To enable you to participate and fully contribute at the meetings you attend, Carer Voice are here to support you from the very start of your Carer Rep journey. We have a Carer Rep Recruitment Pathway which we follow to ensure that you receive a comprehensive package of training to empower you to feel confident in your Carer Rep role. What are the Benefits of being a Carer Rep? Overall, the Carer Rep role will give you an opportunity to contribute to WAC’s mission to make a real and positive difference to the lives of carers.
